Agreeing

Disagreeing (strong)

A communicative goal
Use language to act in a situation: express an opinion, ask for clarification, suggest an action or weigh advantages and drawbacks. An effective answer fits the addressee and responds to what was said. A grammatical sentence can still be unsuitable if it ignores the situation.

Agree and disagree constructively
Your situation: In an imagined class project, pupils discuss whether all international cooperation activities should take place online.

Read the short dialogue
- Speaker A: All our cooperation activities should be online.
- Speaker B: I see your point, but some activities need us to meet in person.
Reveal the explanation
B responds to A’s proposal and gives a reservation. A respectful disagreement addresses the idea rather than attacking the speaker.
Try with a partner: Keep the same communication goal, change one detail and take turns. Several answers may be suitable. There is no automatic assessment of this spoken practice.
