📝 Model Answer

Topic: Should students wear uniforms?

Introduction: The debate about school uniforms has been ongoing for years. While some people believe that uniforms are necessary, others think they limit students' freedom. In this essay, I will argue that students should wear uniforms because they promote equality and discipline.

Body: Firstly, uniforms create a sense of equality among students. When everyone wears the same clothes, there is less pressure to follow fashion trends. This reduces bullying based on appearance and helps students focus on their studies. Secondly, uniforms promote discipline and professionalism. When students wear uniforms, they behave more seriously and respectfully.

However, some people argue that uniforms limit students' freedom of expression. While this is true to some extent, students can still express themselves through their personality, hobbies, and ideas. Uniforms are just one aspect of school life.

Conclusion: In conclusion, I believe that school uniforms are beneficial for students. They promote equality, discipline, and a positive learning environment.

Build an argumentative paragraph

Original practice material · explained answers · no official-exam attribution

Understand the rule

An opinion needs reasons, explanation and examples. A claim is not proved by repeating it. A balanced paragraph can recognise a limitation while defending a clear position. Match the length and structure to the actual prompt.

Follow a method

Start with a topic sentence. Develop a reason. Add an example. Acknowledge a relevant limitation. Finish with a sentence that supports the position.

Worked example

School clubs can help young people develop confidence. Planning an event requires them to discuss ideas and share responsibilities. For example, a reading club gives shy members a supported opportunity to speak. Clubs should remain accessible, however, so that cost does not exclude students.

Practise and explain your answer

01Argue for responsible use of technology at school.
Possible line: technology improves access to resources, but learners must verify information and protect personal data. Give a classroom example and a practical condition.
02Revise your first draft using a checklist.
Check task fulfilment, paragraph organisation, supporting details, vocabulary, verb forms, spelling and punctuation. This is a formative checklist, not an official examination marking grid.
03Why should examples be specific?
They make the message understandable and support the claim instead of repeating a vague idea.

  1. For example, planning a reading event requires sharing tasks and respecting deadlines.
  2. School clubs can help pupils develop useful skills.
  3. Therefore, participating in a club can support learning beyond the classroom.
  4. One reason is that organising activities teaches them to work together.
